Twenty Four Hours That Changed The World. In the television drama “24,” each episode took place within one 24-hour period in the life of Jack Bauer, a CIA agent. Jack Bauer had to stop bomb threats, airborne viruses, presidential assassination attempts and save the people he cared about often all at the same time. It was nothing short of epic.
Our Holy Week series for 2024 is “24: The Last Day of Jesus”.
On Monday through Thursday of Holy Week at 11:45 am we will
gather to consider some of what unfolded in these 24 hours
leading to the Crucifixion.
24 hours describing the last day of Jesus’ life…which
altered the entire course of human history.
24 hours that opened into a new dimension of history filled
with eternal promise.
24 hours – 2000 plus years later we are still talking about
it.
What would it look like to study a day in the life of Jesus
unfolding in real time? And especially the last day of His
life – the one that would alter the entire course of human
history? So much so that even 2000 years later people are
still talking about it.
A Cooperative Venture by First Baptist, Highland Church of
Christ, St. Paul United Methodist and First Central
Presbyterian churches.
Our city-wide Holy Week programs are a wonderful tradition in
Abilene which dates back at least 40 years. Many in our city
consider this series as some of the best evidence of the
shared faith and trust of Abilenians.
This year the host church on each day will welcome all. Bring
your own lunch if you wish (optional) and the host church will
have dessert ready for you. Free!
Each church will provide a place for you at the table, plenty
of new friends, plus tea or water, along with dessert.
All are invited to this community event.
Doors open at 11:45 am. Dessert first! The program begins at
approximately 12:10 pm.

Loretta Fulton, Abilene’s Religion reporter writes this about
the Holy Week shared experience:
“Of all the religious events I attend and write about each year, the Holy Week
Luncheon Series is a favorite. It brings together people from a variety of
Christian worship experiences and traditions. We learn from each other, and
we learn to appreciate difference, not merely tolerate difference. The daily
sermons are always excellent, and the communal worship experience is something to be cherished.”
