Worship

by Caroline

I chose this topic to study because I have experienced both traditional style and contemporary style worship, so I know a lot about both styles. When I think about worship, I think about choir, hymns, a red sanctuary, or drums, and a guitar. However, what I’ve learned in my research is it is not just about style.

This topic is important for Christians because it shows your love to God. You can worship in many different ways other than singing. One of the ways you can do this other than singing is by praying. Another way is responsive reading. For example, in church when the leader says one line then the congregation says the next, and it keeps going like that back and forth. You can do worship either by yourself or with a group of any size.

What the Bible teaches about this topic is in Colossians, Chapter three, Verses sixteen and seventeen; where it says “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richl, teaching an admonishing wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spirited songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.” In First Chronicles, Chapter sixteen, Verses eight through twelve where it says, “Oh give thanks to the Lord; call upon his name; make known his deeds among the peoples! Sing to him, sing praises to him; tell of all his wondrous works! Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice! Seek the Lord and his strength, seek his presence continually! Remember the wondrous works that he has done.” In these verses, it talks about giving thanks, to remember, and to praise the Lord.

In addition to what scripture teaches about worship, John Wesley believed that worship is a duty towards God and that is is something that should be both inward and outward. My research impacted my personal faith with Jesus Christ because its helped me to understand more about why we do what we do on Sunday and by understanding it more, it may be more meaningful to me in the future.

According to Pastor Chuck from chuckknowschurch.com, worship is the most important action we take as a Christian congregation. Therefore, the church’s best response is to offer opportunities to worship in song, in prayer and in service to others. The church can respond by creating many opportunities for people to declare their love for God.
