Like so many, the people of St Paul Abilene are eager to do anything we can to help the recovery and rebuilding begin. Based on the experience helping after Allison, Katrina, and Rita, we want to focus our prayers and efforts in places of greatest effectiveness.
We have been reminded to NOT collect unsolicited donations such as water, food, and clothing. UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief) needs money to mobilize their disaster response plan to best serve the needs of those affected by Hurricane Harvey in South Texas. Their operations are supported annually through the Shared Ministries from every United Methodist Congregation. 100% of all donations at this point will go directly to the need area and those affected.
The best ways to provide immediate help:
- Monetary donations to UMCOR Domestic Disaster Response Advance #901670, Click the red “Give Now” link to donate online.
- If you want to write a check, mark it “Disaster Relief” and place in the offering plates, bring to the church office, or mail to 525 Beech St, Abilene, TX 79601.
- Churches and individuals can assemble cleaning kits (flood buckets). A list of kit supplies can be found at http://www.umcor.org/UMCOR/Relief-Supplies/Relief-Supply-Kits/Cleaning. In the Abilene District, Aldersgate UMC is the collection site for Cleaning Kits. Their office hours are 8:30-12:00 & 1:00-4:30 Monday to Thursday. 1741 Sayles Blvd, Abilene, TX 79605
